Grand Beach Provincial Park has 18K of trails that are groomed for both classic skiing and skate skiing.
New in 2020, 6K of the trails are now shared use with fatbiking, snowshoeing, and walking. Trails Map
Fatbiking with appropriately low tire pressure and snowshoeing have minimal negative impact on a skate ski track. However, walking on a skate track often damages it if walkers aren’t single file on the edge that is opposite from the classic track.
Grand Beach Provincial Park staff have faced many challenges in 2022. Four seasonal (summer) staff positions were vacant. High water levels on Lake Winnipeg created major challenges on the beach that consumed much staff time. Several signs have gone missing in the past year. They will be reprinted. Reports of missing signage are welcome from skiers and the public, so the park can try to stay ahead of this issue this year.
Park management has looked into obtaining new ski trail grooming equipment, but they were told by suppliers that there won’t be any grooming equipment available for purchase until 2024. Once availability and price are confirmed, the park will put in a request for the purchase approval. In the interim, staff are working on the old grooming equipment to make sure it is in as good condition as possible
