Ski Trails Open in Riding Mountain

News November 22, 2011

Thanks to local ski enthusiast and provincial park employee, Roger Baird, cross county skiers can now enjoy 10km of packed and track set ski trails along Deep Lake Road in Riding Mountain National Park. As of November 19th Baird reports,

“The conditions are good to excellent and the tracks are fast and hard. These are probably the only set trails in the park but there are others that are packed.”

Located north of Rossburn on Route 264, Deep lake Station is located at the southwest end of the park. The trail is in the park and open to anyone. Roger suggests travelers contact him later in the week to check on current conditions noting that the heat wave expected in Southern Manitoba this week is not expected in the Rossburn area.

According to Karin McSherry, Executive Director of the Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba (CCSAM),

“This is a great opportunity, some weeks before Christmas, for cross country skiers to get out on their skis, and experience the great parks and trails that Manitoba has to offer”.

The CCSAM has recently relaunched its website, with an extensive trail conditions section, which also allows skiers to submit their own reports to ensure up-to-date information is available. The website also contains information on competitive sking and clubs in the province as well as a full listing of where to ski within Manitoba
