Brent Bottomley Honoured for 25+ Years of Coaching Excellence

Congratulations to Brent Bottomley for receiving a well deserved Long Term Service Award from Coaching Manitoba this past Sunday at the Coaching Manitoba Excellence Awards banquet presented by Manitoba Liquor + Lotteries. Brent has been coaching for over 33 years.

We all know Brent as the head coach of the Prairie Storm Ski Team and now Team WindChill but many of you might not know that Brent also coached the Manitoba Sailing Team at the Western Canadian Championships and he was the Provincial Team coach for Biathlon Manitoba, sending Jim Carrabre and Paget Stewart to the Olympic Games (1984 and 1988 respectively).

Here are some other things you might not know about Brent:

  • Lead coach of a Nordic World Championships and 4 World Cup tours in Europe, Russia & the US.
  • Race Chairman of 5 Canada Cups.
  • Developed the first Sprint Race Series in Canada (North American Sprint Championships).
  • He literally wrote the book on teaching skate technique (the first CANSI manual on skate skiing).
  • One of the founders of the Red River Nordic Club.
  • Executive Committee member of Cross Country Canada Board of Directors and CCSAM Chairman for a total of 17 years.
  • 3 time District 5 Lazer Champion (Sailing).
  • Righteous drummer in various 70’s & 80’s rock bands. Names withheld to protect the innocent.
