Cross Country Canada’s Club Volunteer of the Month for December 2010

Club News December 20, 2010

The following story appeared in the December 2010 edition of Cross Country Canada’s Cross Connections email newsletter:

Club Volunteer of the Month: Victor Chappelaz, MB
Victor Chappellaz has been a familiar face at Birch Mountain Sports for the last 16 plus years. As the Club President for Birch Mountain Sports, Victor has been, and continues to be one of the main volunteers and promoters of the cross country ski sport. This Southwest Manitoba cross country ski facility has some of the best groomed trails in Manitoba due to Victor’s skill and tireless dedication. Over the years, he has spent countless hours in the fall clearing, cutting and preparing the trails before the snow flies. His carpentry skills are put to good use maintaining the clubhouse and equipment or building new storage facilities. You can often find Victor, playing dodge ball with the kids in the snow or dressed up as a Pirate leading a moon-lite Halloween walk at Birch. Last fall during course preparation for the annual school bike race at Birch, one of Victor’s sons managed to find him in the bush marking trails; when Victor asked him “how did you know where to find me”, his son replied, “well I just put your truck on cruise control and it drove straight here”. And that comment, in a nut shell, says it all.
