WINDSOR PARK NORDIC CENTRE GRAND OPENING of MACHINE-MADE SKI TRAIL DECEMBER 7, 2024

Winnipeg, MB – December 4, 2024 The Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba is pleased to announce the Windsor Park Nordic Centre will open for public skiing on Saturday December 7, 2024, thanks to new snowmaking capacity and facility upgrades.

In the face of erratic weather due to climate change, government granting agencies, cash donations, value-in-kind contributions, and countless volunteer hours have all come together to make this momentous achievement possible.

“The 2.5 km ‘primary loop’ along the Seine River will guarantee reliable skiing regardless of what Mother Nature throws at us this winter. Hats off to over 20 volunteers who have worked hundreds of hours over the past 3 weeks to make this happen”, said Laurie Penton, Windsor Park General Manager.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10:30 AM on Saturday December 7, 2024 at the clubhouse trailhead. “We are very excited to invite everyone to come ski with us so early in the season. This ribbon cutting event is a celebration of a 15 year vision spent planning and investing in our Nordic Centre and it honours the legacy of Brent Bottomley who starting this project. Brent’s dream was to create a full service Nordic ski facility for competitive and recreational skiers alike just minutes from downtown Winnipeg” said Karin McSherry, Executive Director of Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba. Brent passed away in 2018.

Windsor Park Nordic Centre, located at 10 Rue Des Meurons in St. Vital, maintains over 10 km of daily groomed ski trails for classic and skate skiing techniques. The entire trail system is lit for night skiing and along with the staffed clubhouse is open 7 days per week. Clubhouse amenities offer trail pass purchase, ski rentals, equipment, ski lessons, hot and cold drinks refreshments.
