Grand Beach Classic Update

Events News March 13, 2014

Hi everyone and happy March!

It looks like the weather is going to be great for this Sunday’s Grand Beach Classic MB Cup #1 race. Environment Canada has Sunday’s race pegged for -7 C for the high.

The course at the Grand Beach Provincial Park ski area will be open and marked for a pre-ski on Saturday, March 15th by 12 noon. The race is classic technique and will be groomed accordingly. Our race start, (Mass starts in waves) as stated in the race notice is slated for 12 noon.

We have added a 24 km course to the race (two loops of the 12 km squirrel course) by request of the racing community. If you are interested switching your distance to 24 km, please send email to Ron at skinnyskis@me.com.

We will have guy’s and girl’s change rooms which are the two warming huts in the trailhead heated and ready to go. Bathroom facilities are the ‘old school’ park biffies on site.

We will have a small tent set up for food and refreshments which will include hot dogs, hot chocolate, and marshmallows. A number of cooking fires (in barrels) will be on hand for the hotdogs and Marshmallows and to keep everyone warm.

Please pre-wax your skis prior to Sunday’s race as limited waxing (outdoor) equipment will be on site.

We are looking forward to some fantastic racing, and great times at Grand Beach this weekend.
